wood shed

This shed was built during the Straw Bale Comprehensive Workshop in April 2003 and plastered during the Artistry with Clay & Lime Workshop in May 2003.
The bale walls are compressed using all-thread. The box beam is made up of a pair of 2x4's on edge capped top and bottom with plywood. A pair of 2x6's on the sides adds strength and bears on the external bamboo pins that now become bearing elements.
All walls were sculpted with a base coat of straw-clay plaster. Broken glass and bottles were used for the small east window. A large piece of flagstone was used as a window sill.
The interior bottle window is sculted, plastered and painted with clay.
Green bamboo was used to form the entry arch. A shelf was also sculpted out of straw-clay.

The interior shelves and counter are sculpted with straw clay blocks and plaster. The final plaster is clay/lime

The design was created by Kelly Lerner using a stencil that was pressed into wet clay.

The yellow wall is a white clay plaster painted with a casein wash.

The east wall is plastered with clay and local shale. River stone covers the lower portion. The corner seat is plastered with lime over a straw-clay base. The lime is frescoed with a green clay then stained with ferrous sulfate and green acid stain.
Various layers of lime and clay were carved out to form the mandala.
The interior walls were a mix of plasters. The wall with the window is a wheat paste and sand plaster. The blue and yellow panels are polished lime and the others on the right are polished clay/lime.
