Advanced Plastering & Artistry Class
Plastering, Sculpting & Carving, and the perfect polish
Led by Benito Steen and assisted by other Steen family
This is our first offering of an advanced workshop for students with plastering experience who want to hone their artistry skills and knowledge of complex mixes.
This is a comprehensive 7-day workshop. We will be covering our more advanced techniques that we have developed over the years, including:
- Beginning with our application methods and how to speed these up in professional settings
- Sculpting and shaping – including corners and artistic curved details, a Canelo Project specialty
- Carving and Relief work – including layering of mixes to carve
- Advanced polishing techniques – how to create your own perfect polishes with clay and lime from scratch. This includes Moroccan Tadelakt, a water-resistant lime plaster used for showers, and clay polished finishes.
- General mix design – we will offer a deep dive into the craft of mix-making whether it be a thick sculpted shaping layer or a paper thin polishing finish.
This workshop is aimed at (but not limited to) people who have done some plastering before either professionally or on their own builds, and want to advance their skills in more complex detailing, artistry and specific plaster techniques.
